What is Gynecomastia?
During puberty, it is normal for the mammary gland to enlarge in men due to hormonal changes. These changes disappear when this hormonal "storm" ends.
However, in some cases, the gland is enlarged, causing an obvious aesthetic alteration and psychosocial involvement. In adolescent gynecomastia, it is convenient to wait a while and if it does not resolve spontaneously, its surgical removal would be performed.
Another type of Gynecomastia is secondary to medications (corticosteroids, anabolics, ...) or disease.
The pseudoginecomastia is the one that presents a mostly fatty component and occurs above all associated with obesity.

The gland is removed through a small incision in the areola. In many occasions it is associated with liposuction of the accompanying fat.
In cases of exclusive alteration of fat, liposuction is the only way to treat Gynecomastia.
Duration and Anesthesia
The intervention lasts between one and two hours, with local anesthesia and sedation, on an outpatient basis.
Postoperative
At the end of the operation, a compression bandage is applied, which is removed after 48 hours, and is replaced by a compression shirt for two to three weeks.
Most discomfort is well controlled with the prescribed medication. The breasts will be more sensitive than normal for 2 to 3 weeks.
At approximately 20 days the intradermal suture will be removed. You can shower normally after 4 days, although baths are not recommended until the stitches are removed.
Results
Gynecomastia results are very satisfactory for the patient. In addition to aesthetic improvement, it offers a very important psychological improvement.
